 William sends in this stupendous postcard to herald in his very interesting "Devices and Desires" exhibition in Kansas City, MO.  What a riveting beauty - mysteriously historical seeming and museum-like.  Superb work William!

I wish I could attend the opening reception. I have exchanged many art works with the well known Mail Artist over the years, but I would love the chance to shake hands in person. What a great showing that has got to be. I love William's incredible work - he always packs a punch! Not Art and Marconi News and,  of course, Addressee.  I love to see work from this good natured, long time magical mail artist. This is a gorgeous card that takes the envelope to you from a distant place and culture. It is not warm, but not unfriendly, just artistically inviting, a feature that I admire greatly. And check out that sweet Cavellini artistamp! Love this card.

I have seen Bruno's work everywhere online and he is one of my favorite mail artists. Another artistamp on the reverse side shows Bruno posing with his tongue exposed - typical Bruno antics!  Meant to be a large and savage bear, this fellow appears to be more of a raccoon playing football. The block print, carved by Coralette,  is nicely done and the facial expression is certainly one of grim determination!

 Waa-Pow! Spitting out teeth like a popcorn machine and the fun is just beginning at Dopesick's Friendly Bar and Grill. It is a pretty cool drawing though and reminds me of a few taverns I frequented in my sordid past.

The front and back of the second postcard (yes, he sent me two - the double bubble). The "Stop Biting" depiction is pretty intense. Woah! Let's talk it over. Thank you very much for the pair Kelly and see you in the mail.

 This menacing Fluxbot invasion is fantastic work by Steam Punk/Mail Artist Dina Haskins. What will being ruled by these future Fluxus Masters be like? Is our Fluxus future in jeopardy?

 Atlas prepares to hurl the planet like a bowling ball through this serene and unsuspecting village setting. It can be like that sometimes in our own lives. Just when we think life is the easiest - the world can come barreling down on you. Hey, the ax can come down on anybody.

Joey expresses his infatuation with the "Duke" (John Wayne) in this hilarious "Oh happy day" altered photo of the famous movie star. Thank you very much for the card - Nice to be getting things from the Bay Area (No. California) where I am from.

 As Valentine's Day approaches, I'm a Super Hero returns to show that his heart is in the right place with this  rather tenderly appealing postcard. A study in abstract affection by one of the more prolific mail artists currently working.

 One of the Super Hero's many projects.  He must work tirelessly,  just by the sheer amount of projects he has going.  But he always manages to monitor them nicely.

Thanks for showing us the Love Super Duper - I am always into that theme. I am working on my 2012 Valentine card just now and I will be sending a few of them out very soon.  The handsome and ponderous mark of ZenDada returns to Heebee Jeebeeland in all it's mail art splendor.  This (A4 size) work from Eddie sure gives the feeling of hope running out from being attacked by so many. A bold and noble piece - It reads: "Passando a Frontiera a reducao dos Corpos" (Turning to decrease the Frontier Corps). Nice one Eduardo!  ZenDada strikes again!

 I have a friend in California that owned a Cayman and, quite frankly, it was dreadfully frightening. It had the same intensely wicked looking disposition as this crocodillian fellow seen here. Susan has managed to capture that award winning, angry and seething appearance.  

Thank you Susan for your well-wishing, it is appreciated. I am feeling and doing much better these days. Sometimes mail art has a way of making the world seem like a world full of friends - and that notion makes me happy. See you in the mail my dear!

 I tried to look up "Blacky's Image Lounge" - the evident sender of this bizarre card, and could not really find out much. I remember a crazy assortment of postcards for sale when I was a kid in the 1960's  - Is this one of those? The large, thick card itself looks and feels aged. So, is this card actually from Byron Black?

Thank you very much for the kind words and I agree with his assessment of Ruud Janssen being rather heroic ("Keeps the aspidistra fluttering?") in the Mail Art world - especially IUOMA.  Super assortment of colorful Indonesian postage too. I shall send something in return - in hope of discovering whom the sender is and what "Keeps the aspidistra fluttering" means.

 I received a very interesting telephone call this morning. On the other end, was none other than the laughing voice of my dear cousin Arty. "Where is the Bull"? he asked, "Why haven't you been posting very much lately"? Well, several reasons - but I shall not bore you, gentle reader, with those 'whys'.  So, okay, I'll do my best for more postings starting with this "It's Grillin' time"! postcard. A little history:

I have known Gunter for years now and have had the wonderful opportunity to get together in person with him here, in the 4th Dimension for a couple of weeks when he last took a vacation in the States. We had an uproarious time together right from he walked into my house.  It was like we have known each other forever - and we are still close friends. The above card, with the Bull (beef) - is a happy commemorative for all the BBQing we did during that time. Other merrymaking by us included a lot of nutty stuff with more than a few beers, as I remember. Ah, that was a fine time alright. Even now, we are trying to make arrangements for another journey to Heebee Jeebeeland for him to be here. Too much fun not to do that again........

Here, Gunter displays his versatile "artist's smock" - good for painting and barbecuing! Nice artistamp and I love the little hungry guy too. I miss you, Cousin Arty.  Long time "O-Fish-L Mail Artist" and photographer Adamandia  returns with a mini-load of fun packed into an action-fest looking envelope. The above ATC is a souvenir, made by Ms. K for the "2011 Fluxfest Chicago". Remember folks,  Fluxfest 2012  is about to occur in February - Get your Bowler hats ready!

 She also included this neat little carved print block of a TV.  I hope she won't mind that I've turned it on! Oh, look what's playing: "Meet the Willies"!

 This generous stack of O-Fish-L mail art supplies were also included.

 I wanted to get a better look at Adamandia's very clever trademark Fish-Bar-Code. "A-Fishy-Requisite" is one of her Mail Art sites and I know that I have owed that site something from me for a long while. Please forgive!

 First of all, reports of the deadly marauding Giant Block Parasite in your part of the woods should never be taken too lightly

 Gotcha! This lovely young lady's wonderful stroll has been cut short and altered forever by the sticky pink menace. Notice that she has not become alarmed, as she has deliberately sought out this memory erasing monster to 'cure' her of unpleasant remembrances of her former lover. Ah, the blessing of a clean break!

 It is always a delight to have the extraordinary Philyaw decorating the Heebee Jeebeeland page with his visually entertaining art as well as bizarre old wives tales like this one. That Romanian Airship postage stamp is quite a treat in itself!

 Umberto sends in this wonderful 'classico'  postcard from his fabulous studio in Italy. "One Life" or "Una Vita" is his spirited mail art bluster,  paying homage to his fellow countryman and legendary Avant Garde Dadaist through Fluxus and Conceptual Art - Cavellini.

A little history on one of Mail Art's incredible characters:
 Guglielmo Achille Cavellini achieved much of his fame by re-inventing himself as a famous artist and largely promoting himself by posting thousands of Cavellini stickers literally everywhere, along with invented press releases in the cities he visited. He had been previously famous as a savvy world class art collector, born into the wealthy Cavellini estate in Italy in 1914. He decided, one day, that he would rather be famous for his own work and so concocted made up articles and printed entire magazines praising his own work.    He invented the term autostoricizzazione (self-historicization) I have delighted, so many times, in considering Cavellini's bold, flashy and irrepressible style and comportment that resulted in his world class status - as 'made up' as it actually was. Let me just add, that I love Cavellini - and, although dead, it is nothing short of a mail art prophecy, that he shall return (somehow) in 2014! (Perhaps that is why the "Una Vita" title here is somewhat hilarious).
Here, are Cavellini's own words regarding his fame: "The biography of an artist is frequently written after his death, imperfectly and incompletely. Since I don't want any such biography to be written about me, I've decided to write my own"!

Heebee Post #703 - Herman Kamphuis -

 Like a sultry panther, this Heebee Jeebee Princess glides through the futuristic 4th Dimension fashion jungle.   Wow Herman, It is difficult to describe the cerebral countenance this card projects - It certainly warrants a refreshing  look at the term 'mighty' and perhaps even 'royal'. Incredible Mail Art!  The adornments along the perimeter create a nice intimate atmosphere for the majestic subject.

This very entertaining postcard is quite large: 6" x 9" and is composed of the most magical scraps, paper cracklings and old snaps that must have been discarded by the neo-archival "Priests of paper". Herman is in a unique category of excellence as he, once again, creates these landmarks in Mail Art.  Thanks very much Mr. K. and I'll be seeing you in the mail!

Heebee Post #702 - RCBz - St. Clown, Minnesota - USA

 An entertaining display of disturbing Clowns of which can be found in the United States Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives. If I am not mistaken, that would be Senator Mitch McConnell on the right and Ex-Congressman Anthony Weiner on the left.  More than a little creepy, puppetry, such as this, has always given me the creeps - and knowing that Washington D.C. is packed with them is getting difficult to live with. I like the card Roy - a lot!

Addendum :  Since posting the above, I have been corrected by the artist as to the identity of the puppet figure on the left. None other than the Speaker of the House: John Boehner! Which, would make more sense. Now, it is much easier to understand Roy's disposition regarding the GOP.

I must say, in answer to the question posed above, that Heebee Jeebeeland does not have clowns such as the ones displayed on your postcard. Our clowns are of a much more encouraging spirit and actually get a lot of things done here. Love your biting sarcasm Roy - who does it better? The card, as much as I like it, still gives me the creeps - I'll see you accordingly, in the mail! And get a load of the three 3 cent 1950's vintage U.S. postal beauties! They are magnificent as a set - 1956, 1958, 1957, respectively. Splendid little addition Roy!

 I am delighted to have the hard working, long time Mail Artist "Frips" as the first posting for 2012.  I adore her art and photography and am enjoying this "Wish you well 2012" postcard. Her ever-present cat featured prominently as usual. Wish you well too, my dear Frips!

Frips has played a substantial role in Mail Art over the years and should be recognized as one of the great ones - she has organized some notable events and is a tireless artist. I tip my hat to ya Ma'am. Frips Mail Art.
