Heebee Post #1020 - Cascadia Artpost (Jack Lattemann) - Olympia, Washington - USA

 I've received this gorgeous "Plate Block" or "Mini Sheet" with backing postcard as a sort of herald for the entire majestic sheet, which arrived shortly thereafter. The story-telling photos were taken by Jack as he spent a month traveling in Europe in 2005.



All of the little lovelies warranted a closer inspection, as each holds a daydream inside of it and each very nicely reproduced in this delicate format. This is Picture #59 on the sheet. Trail gate, Mamean ("The Pass of the Birds"), Maumturk Mountains, Connemerra, County Galway, Ireland

Jack's attention to detail is fun and classy - a combo that works fabulously for the Artpost.

 This unusually interesting sign hangs over a storefront entrance in Riga, Latvia. The reverse side of the postcard is picture # 4 on the sheet. You can read the legend of what each photo actually is here: Cascadia Artpost.

 After the postcard, this arrived a few days later.  The entire Artistamp sheet of "66 Memories". Exquisitely created with beautiful detail and typography for official appearing enhancement.

I noted this small feature on the right margin.  At least one of these sheets went to the "Ray of Light" Mail Art Project by Edition Janus in Berlin this year.

I love the way Cascadia Artpost  adds this bit of an expediting sticker and cool rubber stamping to hurry the large envelope to it's 4th Dimension destination.

What a great double treat from one of the current elite wizards of the Mail Art realm.  Spectacular work Jack, thank you very much.  Sixty-six Memories that sure look like great ones! See you in the post! Cascadia  Artpost.

Heebee Post #1019 - RCBz - St. Clown, Minnesota - USA

 "Die Tanzerin des Pugilismus" (The Dancer of Boxing). I'm always amused to hear Boxing refered to as  "The Sweet Science". Well, the Sweet Science sure gives the term "Eye contact" a new meaning - as seen above.  Roy's incredible seamless photo engineering is nearly peerless in the Mail Art realm and his newest offering is certainly a testament of that. The stark background really enhances the catatonic loneliness of this young female that has just been in the ring

The reverse side has Roy explaining about an excerpt from Susan Cahn's "Coming on Strong: Gender and Equality in 20th Century Sports", regarding a historic 1876 public Boxing match between a pair of women - with the winner to claim the valuable prize, a silver butter dish, seen on the bottom left. According to Roy, this was considered the first Women's Boxing match in the USA. Also featured on this side is this grand fellow:

This is one of my all time faves. I remember collecting it as a child. Although I have never attended a World's Fair, I have always held a strong desire to do so. This particular World's Fair, with the creation of the "Space Needle" and other wonderful inventions, was astounding for me to read about in 1962.  Now, I see this marvelously imaginative structure on a fairly regular basis and it still is inspiring to me. I guess I'm rather grateful for what's left of the child in me. Thanks Roy, for the eye opening card! See you in the you know what!

Heebee Post #1018 - Stan Askew - Pasadena, California - USA

This handsome postcard from Stan pays a great deal of homage to Teddy Roosevelt - If he is looking a bit stoney faced, it's because this is his Mt. rushmore depiction - in all it's glory.

Ronnie never looked better - that smiling fellow next to him may have though. Anyway, this is a fabulous snap of the Ex-President.  I wonder what he would think, having been apprised of the current state of affairs in the White House today?

 Stan often includes some vintage linen postcards with his Mail Art packages and he didn't fail to include a couple of amazing specimens this time as well.  Here is Guilford Lake, Ohio, depicted with much more mystique than is actually there - although, in all fairness, it is a beautiful spot but, this postcard transcends it's natural beauty. Nice one Stan - though the one below is the real show.

 Wow, what an awesome postcard - Vintage linen, like it's mate seen above.  The Los Angeles Chinatown has never looked better or friendlier than it does right here.  What a remarkable card!

Also included were these two showcards - the one on the right is for the late Levon Helm who played drums and sang for The Band for so many years. You can know more about Levon here. Levon Helm video.

 Joey? Ah well, ya know, I always wanted a home where the Buffalo roam - and now, voila! And do you know why, dear reader, that these Buffalo are crossing the road? See the answer below.

 Nice to have joey back in the 4th Dimension - I was born in Oakland so, Joey's cards always remind me of my old stomping grounds. This card is actually an altered ID card of some type and on the left:




There's Joey tucked nicely into his fancy stained glass robes looking rather regal. Thanks Joey and by the way, I will, eventually be down in the Bay Area at some point and would like to meet you. Until then, see you in the mail.

Heebee Post #1016 - Bruno Chiarlone - Cairo Montenotte - Italy

 This remarkable postcard is actually an altered photograph of the momentous occasion of Bruno meeting with the revered Japanese Mail Artist Ryosuke Cohen.  They are posing in front of the fabulous portrait Ryosuke created of them both while visiting the Italian artist.  Ryosuke's work is highly regarded in the Mail Art realm and are considered as serious works to be collected and adored in a frame on the wall (at least I frame them).  There is something about the seriousness of which Ryosuke conducts his business that I admire greatly.  A powerful and gentle spirit, Ryosuke Cohen continues his "Brain Cell" issue production on into the future. Great card Bruno!

Heebee Post #1015 - Rachel Carter - Mason, Michigan - USA

 Looks like Rachel is dabbling with a dangerously unstable "Collage Chemistry Kit" with her volatile "What is the secret?" postcard. I'm afraid that whatever the secret is, it isn't revealed in this cryptic development. It certainly is entertaining though, as we pique our minds with what the secret might be.  Those spuds look like they may know, as they flap their unappealing appendages in glee!

The spud that knew too much.  His steady diet of the secret was overwhelming and exhausting as he wipes away a tear with an arm like a burnt match.  Rachel's busy card is a little unsettling for a reason that is tough to nail down, as I'm sure she meant it to be.  Great card once again. Heebee Post #1014 - Sky City (Lord Fugue) - Hickory, North Carolina - USA

 Sky City checks into Heebee Jeebeeland with this unusually troubling evidence.  Connecting the dots here may not be for the squeamish, in view of the buzzing hand held device, the alarmed Simian victim and who knows what's emerging from the closet dungeon!  Yipes!




The reverse side of Lord Fugue's sordid frolicking included this lovely adornment. "Building a dream, one robot at a time". Sweet.  Scott's artistamps can be rather intensely ornate as is this great specimen seen here.

As fiercely playful as the postcards Lord Fugue creates are, the reverse side of the card reveals his more sensitive side. His note states that he has recorded some more songs - I sure would like to hear them. Scott and I have similar tastes and I have heard his earlier CD and loved it. Heebee Post #1013 - Art Tower (Gunter Schwind) - Aschaffenburg - Germany

 These terrific "Angelic Love Devils" stand like celestial beings in a soulful Dr. Who episode - their smiles going from friendly to dreadful as they get closer!  I love the congruency of the creatures with the castle-like architecture in the background - giving the postcard an unusual nobleness.  These are the heralds for The Head Project art show (see below). Great card Gunter!

 Gunter's "Phase 5 - 99 Days of Fire" is part of an ongoing project that he has been producing at a prodigious rate for years. "The Head Project" is largely in tribute for those that perished in the tragic Twin Towers destruction in NYC back in 2001. He literally assembles a huge wall of these acryllic painted heads and it can be pretty imposing - stupendously so.  Good fortune on your September show my friend.

 An interesting melding of Art Tower and one of his "Heads" - Again, in front of that castle or citidel-ish structure. If I am not mistaken, Gunter is having his showing inside that massive building.

I am fortunate enough to have met Gunter several years ago when he visited the States for a few weeks.  We had a lot of fun comparing notes on life and art and had grand time of it with the BBQ and a pint or two.  He is like a part of the family now and I in his. Heebee Post #1012 - Coralette Damme (The Crafty Hag) - St. Petersburg, Florida - USA

 A "Happy Summer" card from Coralette in fabulous, sun drenched St. Pete.   Above we see  the Crafty Hag's cryptical map depicting her triumphant upheaval in changing her address within the same city.  I can't help but to recall a calamitous household move I made in the late seventies. I was living in San Francisco on Sutter St near the corner of Jones St.and I was moving to another apartment one block to Bush St. and Jones - one block that was straight uphill, arguably the steepest angled street in SF. Well, a moving van seemed impracticle for such a short distance - So, we carried everything up the confounded hill. Ugh! The worst move ever! Hope yours was less stressful, my dear Hag.

I like the invariably friendly spirit of Coralette's Bug jots. This smiling fellow, who seems to be wearing a Fez, sure is delighted to offer up an afternoon tea.. I've got your new address my friendly Hag, and shall be occupying your mail box soon   Happy Summer Coralette!  Dread Lippencott's Menagerie.

Heebee Post #1011 - Jennie Hinchcliff - San Francisco, California - USA

"National Doughnut Day".  Interestingly, I am quaffing down steaming black coffee and relishing the second half of a large glazed doughnut as I write this. "Yum" just about sums it up!  Jennie sends in this yummy commemorative as a declaration to stop and smell the roses (in this case doughnuts).  The different colored inks in her rubber doughnut stampings really give it a pleasant appeal. Nice card Jennie - I love commemoratives, especially if it is for something that I like a lot.

I am thinking that this beautiful vintage "Donut Time" clock is quite large and most likely, affixed to the facade  of the business by the same name.  The sign is brilliant - for it is always "Donut Time", according to the clock.   I am rater a clock nut and have a pretty strange collection of goofy timepieces of all sizes.

Jennie was thoughtful enough to leave a decadent menu of various pastries, cakes, etc. - to be included on "National Doughnut Day".  Yes, "Yum" indeed!  Thanks very much Ms. Hinchcliff, you are a "Sweetie Pie" (couldn't resist, sorry).  See you in the mail!  Red Letter Day

Heebee Post #1010 - Bethany Lee - Fleming Island, Florida - USA

 Bethany Lee joins the fun here, in the 4th Dimension, with this lovely ethereal Artist Trading Card. It is somehow incorporated onto a standard playing card. It is a magnificent card and , frankly, I can't tell how she made it. The aura of haunting Sea Captain is captured nicely - one of the best ATCs I have ever seen.  Check out the reverse side below:

 She has somehow managed to print directly onto the card - That is, I think that's how she made it - It really is exquisite - and classy!

 A second ATC was included - This one has lil' ol' Bethany Lee standing next to a curious looking planter. This is in response to my sending her a certain commemorative postcard last month.

 She also sent in these handsome stretcher bearers to compare with my "Screw it" stretcher bearers - Seen in the stamp I made in the left top corner. Interestingly, all of these stretcher bearers look very much alike.

 This terrific envelope is just festooned with an entertaining  mix of killer rubber stampings and super artistamps.



This "Tiki Post" stamp is very much Heebee Jeebee and should feel right at home here. It seems to emit that 4th Dimension Island vibe we dig so much here.

Heebee Post #1009 - Connie Jean - Cocoa Beach, Florida - USA

 Connie Jean returns to Heebee Jeebeeville with this snap out of time at her local Post Office. When I mention "Out of time", I mean that it is nearly impossible to ascertain if this snap was taken recently or back in 1948. It is a great illustration of  mundane Americana that, of it's own volition, is interesting because of it's candidness - allowing us to view it without it without any 'staged adornments'.  The real mood of the moment is captured nicely.  Nice card CJ.

With my penchant for all things goofy, I just love the confounding "Skunk Ape".  What a notion!  Connie Jean's obviously having a lot of fun with her Mail Art proficiency as indicated by the light-hearted antics - particularly, that rubber stamping of Snow White holding the American postcard stamp (an apple). Thank you very much Connie Jean and see you in the mail.

Heebee Post #1008 - DADANAUTIK - Bremen - Germany

 DadaNautik became involved with a Lotro Poku "Add and Pass" and sent it on to the happy pastures of the 4th Dimension. Along with the composition is a bold declaration from the rough and ready artist. And we both have the fortune of knowing Lotro (Lothar Trott) to mutually thank for our meeting.

 DadaNautik's cool rubber stampings from the reverse side of the envelope. The round stamping on the right is peculiar. Was soll das? (What is this?) indeed.

The appealing decorated envelope really piqued my interest as to what it's contents might be.  Great look to it. Thank you very much DadaNautik.  I have already sent something off to you - hope you enjoy it as I am looking forward to some exchanges.  See you in the mail.
