Heebee Post #1057 - Fennabee - Antwerp - Belgium

 This stunningly vibrant and classy envelope is the fabulous work of Fennabee, a clever Belgian artist making a fine debut here in Heebee Jeebeeville. Her use of various interesting paper material and paints makes for a splendidly gorgeous decorated envelope. There is a very fun, high energy quality to it - reminiscent  of a dance hall showgirl in a chorus line Can-Can troupe.  The translucent glassine envelope adds to it's colorful uniqueness.  Love, love, love it!

If you do not recognize this Italian film star, who was referred to as the "Most beautiful woman in the world" during her height in the 1950's - You should know her now. This handsomely alter-adorned card, is the visage of the statuesque Gina Lollobrigida.  Like her contemporary constituents, Sophia Loren and Brigitte Bardot, she was a giant in the international cinema industry and beloved by myself as a child.   
Fennebee also included this short note, expressing a desire to exchange some postal art - Well, the answer to that request is a big smiling "Yes" from me! Sending something out to you today.

I thought I might add her address from the backside of the envelope - in case anybody else might want to swap some mail art with her. Thanks Fennabee, great little package of delight. See you soon in the mail.

Heebee Post #1056 - William L. Philyaw - Shawnee, Kansas - USA

William's sensational 'playfully cruel' Halloween seasonal greeting really gets that 'spooky cool' frame of mind activated.  All Hallows Eve - A Go Go!  This sultry, cold blue-skinned, blood sipping trollop - fresh from the Wicked Beauty Salon for Witches (lovely nails!) - looks like she's on top of her game, in full vamping regalia for her favorite evening!  Thank you very much William - a superb development  and a motivator for my Halloween muse to make herself known to my mind.  In other words, I'll be sending something of the same "October Country" feel back to you in the very near future. Heebee Post #1055 - Jennie Hinchcliff (Red Letter Day) - San Francisco, California - USA

 Mr. Zip (or Zippy, if you prefer), is sure taking his postal task to heart in this remarkable postcard that Jennie created as a commemorative for the momentous occasion of the Grand Opening of the William H. Gross Gallery at the National Postal Museum in Washington DC.  This fantastic Philatelic collection is the world's largest on display and was opened to the public on Sept. 22, 2013 - and yes, Jennie was there to soak in the glory!

The National Postal Museum, a Smithsonian Institution museum, is located in the old Post Office building next to Union Station in Washington, D.C. The Museum was created by an agreement between the Smithsonian and the United States Postal Service in 1990 and opened to the public in 1993 - with the W.H.Gross Gallery completing the museum in 2013.  I borrowed the above pic from the Gallery site.

As Jennie notes on the back of the card, this also marks her first visit to the National Postal Museum.  Well, it sure is easy to detect her enthusiasm for the great event -  her excitement for it is rather infectious!  And it is with more than a little envy that I too report this colossal Philatelic featured happening.

The crowning achievement for this remarkable card is the splendid official cancellation stamping and I am quite delighted that Jennie took the time to send one of these to Heebee Jeebeeland. Thank you, dear girl, and see you in the mail! By the way, I just did send you something for the Ex Postal Facto Mail/Art/Books exhibition next Feb in SF.  And I am glad to say that I will be there as well!   Red Letter Day.

Heebee Post #1054 - Eric Bruth - Montrouge - France

"Live long and prosper".  Eric sends in this little conundrum from the familiar outer space duo. In this case, it is Kirk that works an odd logistical rationale on his old pal Spock when it is usually the other way around. Boy, do those fellows look young - these images coming from probably around 1966.

 Eric explains that this is actually an invitation to join in his mail call "We are not alone".  This is my kind of mail call and I will be happily joining in the fun.

 This busy crowd of creatures is nearly reminiscent of Noah's Ark - except there is only one each of each species. 

 The backside of the envelope is nearly featureless - except for this gorgeous Tree Frog resting languidly atop a lovely pond flower. A beautiful artistamp!  Thank you Eric and I shall be sending you something for your call in the very near future. Find Eric's Mail art here: My Mail Arty World.

Heebee Post #1053 - Bruno Chiarlone - Cairo-Montenotte - Italy

 Bruno returns to the land of the Heebee Jeebee with this remarkable  "Nebulous Passport" postcard. Upon closer inspection,  I discovered that the card was actually an altered 1942 U.S. War Correspondent identification card. The thoughtful appearing character in the center is part of the alteration as well as this odd Artistamp item:
It seems to be a plump pie with a police light protruding through the delicate Dada-crust of it's center.  "Action Poetry". I love stuff like this!

Bruno invariably has a marvelously capricious sense of fun with his artful correspondence. He will also be Master of Ceremonies for the Cavellini 2014 centenial celebration.  Can't wait for more details on that! Thanks very much Bruno - great card! More Cavellini information.

Heebee Post #1052 - David Schulze - Dallas, Texas - USA

 David's first visit to Heebee Jeebeeland looks as if it might be some kind of  "March of the Slug Lords" but is, in fact, a small feature of a much larger picture that was cut up into postcard size fragments.

I borrowed this image from David's mail art site, Mail Art Salon. The entire composition is a gloriously colorful universe created by the artist.  I couldn't find the exact painting this postcard was derived from but, I'm certain it must have been rather similar to this one shown here.

The other side reveals a curious display of postage placement as well as David's "Certified #1308" rubber stamping, declaring it an original.  You can check out his interesting technique and his Mail Art call at his Mail Art site.  Thanks for the card David and see you in the mail soon!

Heebee Post #1051 - RCBz - St. Clown, Minnesota - USA

 Roy's triumphant "Pope Warren Loosening the Nuts" postcard smacks of all kinds of sardonic veiled innuendo.  And as he further explains below, "There would be no mechanistic interpretation of the Universe while he was in charge".  Roy's compiling imagery is almost always stunning in it's brilliant psycho-dramatic appeal.

Side "B" of Roy's eye-popping extravaganza boasts in Latin: "I love the smell of WD-40 in the morning. It smells like ........the Orthodox!" - An amusing twisting of the popular phrase actor Robert Duvall uttered as he stood victoriously in front of the burning jungle in one of my favorite films, Apocalypse Now.  Nicely done Roy. Heebee Post #1050 - Theo Nelson - Calgary, Alberta - Canada

 And so, the Autumn Equinox passes and the happy, capricious days of Summer are eclipsed by the foliage altering Autumn. Theo commemorates this seasonal phenomenon with this austere, yet vibrant depiction of a Canadian Fall in all it's gloriously encompassing  transformation. Theo takes an entertaining liberty with his use of striking colors in this stroll through the countryside.

I must admit, I have had this card on my desk for a while - it just didn't seem like the right time to reveal it, until after the Equinox (Sept. 21, north of the equator).  Theo's poem feels pretty good, especially if your favorite season is Autumn, like me.  Thanks for another of your astute observations Theo and see ya in the mail!  Theo Nelson's Whimsy and Colour.

Heebee Post #1049 - Remy Penard - Limoges - France

 This "StamPoem" is one of the many Visual Poetry ensembles that Remy deftly creates.  This particular StamPoem appears as if some fantastic Fluxus engine. "Fluxus Turbo", well oiled Dada gears churning with the wonderful power of experimentation.

The busy reverse side sports some interesting rubber stamping features. Let's take a closer look at the Wind-Power Artistamp with corresponding stamping.
"He!". "Oh!". His delight for the Wind Power stations on the Millevaches Plateau is obvious. I am quite familiar with these machines, having worked with engineers that were developing and perfecting similar devices in Livermore, California in the 1980's.  They are indeed fascinating. Heebee Post #1048 - Herman Kamphuis - Amsterdam - The Netherlands

 Spectacular Singalong Musical Theatre! 

 It appears as though Augustus Caesar has had the night of his life in this peculiar alter-ego "Rondo" portrait. For some odd reason, I am reminded of David Bowie's "Rebel, Rebel".  This large, 11" x 6", sturdily constructed postcard is like a campy movie poster for a Musical Cabaret show.

This is the first time I have seen this "Herkalux" rubber stamping - making it an official Kamphuis work. That and Herman also adds "Voyageur Postal" (Postal Traveler) in reference to the cards destiny.  I like to sometimes print "Where are you going letter?" and have the letter answer "Far, far away". A very similar romantic appeal.

Herman's Mail Art creations are easily identifiable as his particular technique is dramatically unique and curiously majestic.  Pulling one of his unusual beauties out of your post box is quite a treat. A complicated puzzle piece from the mind of the artist, it seems to have a sort of DNA strand look to it. Thank you very much Herman - I love the "Postal Traveler". See you in the mail!

Heebee Post #1047 - Valery Shimanovsky - Nizhekamsk, Tatarstan - Russia

Valery sends in this very interesting multi-alt-portraited assemblage of my favorite Beatle, John Lennon.  These little portraits comprise quite an international appeal for the late artist.

I have an odd memory of Mr. Lennon: In the early evening of Dec. 8, 1980, I was walking out the door of a Chinese restaurant and I could just faintly hear "Watching the Wheels", a Lennon tune, emitting from an upstairs apartment right above the place.  I instantly knew, that something terrible had happened to him.  And, as I turned the radio on in my car, I found out that I was right.  RIP.

Heebee Post #1046 - Lorraine Kwan - Vancouver, British Columbia - Canada

 Lorraine's Sci-Fi glamour sure gives off a "Near Future" fashion sense.  Her model looks terrific adorned in the stunning hand made utility corset.  Created from mittens, zippers, corks and beads, this outfit goes right over the top!  Far out and impressive - great work Lorraine! As you can see, the costume like attire is topped off with quite a few mittens.

These mittens and gloves were gathered through Lorraine's recent Mail Call for single or orphaned ones - their mates having been lost.

The entertaining  documentation for the "Lost Mittens" Mail Call also reveals the beginning portion of  her near future novella "Lucinda Kartography - Finders Keepers".  Lorraine offers a first glimpse, free read by clicking on the link. All of Lorraine's projects are carefully executed by the talented artist and she invariably enjoys fabulous results from each one.  Over the years, she has produced some incredible works and the Lucinda trilogy, when concluded, will be a remarkable achievement!  Thanks Lorraine and see you in the post! Heebee Post #1045 - Pamela Gerard - San Francisco, California - USA

 This perfectly Heebee Jeebee decorated correspondence sure made the bills that accompanied it in my mail box seem insignificant.  Ever notice that Mail Art, especially good Mail Art as seen above, really makes the impact of the other mail pale in comparison?  Gotta hand it to Pamela, she sure captured the 4th Dimension spirit with this extra-dimensional communique from some distant String Theory universe. Seen in person, that swath of gold in the center is dreamily shimmery, adding to it's glorious other worldly presence.




And on the reverse side, I'm getting a pretty good sense of fun from this interesting artist. This rubber stamping and the "The Mailbox is a Museum"  are rather confirming that feeling.
In a very pleasant note, Pamela is referring to the incredible Ex Postal Facto  happening in Feb. next year in San Francisco (See Post #1038).  It will be a wonderful time had by all (especially me) and I will be quite glad to meet you too Pamela.  Yes, trading some Mail Art is definitely in our future my new friend. Heebee Podt #1044 - Roberto Rios - Humacao - Puerto Rico

 "Homenaje a Basquiat" (Homage to Basquiat) - Thoughtful study of the famous American artist, done in that edgy Basquiat style. This is one of two postcards that were the contents of the adventuresome envelope from Roberto.


Roberto's "Art Correo" (Mail Art) identification/cancellation rubber stamp appears on the reverse side of both cards.  This is the first submission Heebee Jeebeeland has received from the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and I am delighted to have it!

 This interesting composition "Sinkhole" is much softer and delicate
 than it's mate seen at the top.


I have to wonder, is this a childhood snapshot of Roberto adorning the reverse side of the busy decorated envelope?  Sure looks like the little Gerber fellow - I can't help smiling over that lovely hat!

I love the address incorporated into the late summer festive insect party  envelope. I love happy insects! Beautiful work Roberto - How about some exchanges between us? See you in the mail soon!

Heebee Post #1043 - DC Spaulding - Lomita, California - USA

 DC's Jackalope universe continues to swell with a terrific "Jackalope Express" mail package that contained the following head scratching items:
 DC himself, proudly resplendent, displaying his favorite pals of the Jackalope Jumper Club. I am, for some reason, reminded of Jim Henson. Actually, what fastened to my attention is that remarkable tee-shirt DC is wearing. Jackalope Brewing Company aye?  One can only imagine what tasty and tongue loosening beverage is concocted there!  A great portrait indeed.

 The Jackalope Gazzette with some rather amusing articles concerning the realm of the antler bound rodent.
Among the fanciful articles, DC asks if the rat that ripped off the Jackalope from his mail box would please return the wooden silhouette.  Really? Some folks will stoop so low.....

Love the Jackalope cancellation stamping.

 Staring at this Jackalope disclaimer gets a little on the weird side.
